Senior Awards
An assembly to honor seniors at Southern Garrett High School will be held Thursday, May 17  beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the high school cafetorium. Seniors, their parents and members of their families are welcome to attend this program which recognizes the achievements of  many of this years' seniors." Students will be recognized who have completed career technology programs as well as those who have earned top honors in their career programs.  Students receiving  top academic awards or receiving  scholarships will also be among those  honored.  Other awards to be presented  include  citizenship, service learning, attendance,  music, art, and participation in school activities.

Senior Editions
The 2012 Senior Edition will go on sale during lunch shifts from April 30-May 4. The 2012 Senior Edition is a 60+ page, full color keepsake for $15. This is the first time the Senior Edition has been offered in full color throughout. Don’t miss out on capturing your senior memories in color! Maryland Leadership Workshops
MLW's mission is to deliver high quality programs that engage and inspire young people to understand and achieve their own leadership potential. This summer, MLW will be held from July 22-July 28 at Washington College on the Easter Shore. Workshop topics include Advocacy, Group Dynamics, Team Building, Leadership Styles, Conflict Management, Motivation, Goal Setting, and many more. Miss Teen and Miss Teen USA
If you've ever dreamed of being Miss Teen or Miss Teen USA, this is your chance to turn that dream into a reality. Applications are now being accepted for Miss Maryland USA and Miss Maryland Teen USA pageants, official preliminaries to the prestigious Miss Teen and Miss Teen USA pageants for the year 2013. Attendance Appeals
Underclassmen requesting an appeal of attendance should write a letter of appeal to the administration prior to May 21st. Seniors must have letters on file before May 7th. The attendance appeal committee for seniors will meet on May 14th and for underclassman on the last three days of the school year. If a student appeals his attendance and does not receive a notice to attend a meeting, the appeal has been granted. 2012 Miss Garrett/Miss Maryland Agriculture Contest
Applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Miss Garrett/Miss Maryland Agriculture Contest. The program seeks young women with an agricultural background to serve as leaders who will promote the agricultural industry and the Farm Bureau organization. To be eligible, applicants must be between the ages of 16-19 (not turning 20 by August 24, 2012); single with no children; must have parents/guardians who are members in good standing of the county Farm Bureau; and must be able to attend the 2012 Orientation at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium on August 6, 2012. Application are due by April 30th and are available in the guidance office.

FBI Teen Academy
The FBI is hosting a Teen Academy in which teens, 14-18, can spend a day learning about the different activities of the FBI. The general letter and brochure are attached. It seems like a really great opportunity for those interested in law enforcement who meet the criteria. The main requirements are: be a high school student between the ages of 14-18; possess a grade point average of 2.5; possess leadership qualities and be interested in a law enforcement career. Greenhouse Open
The SHS greenhouse is now open for the spring season. Support the FFA and Ag classes and stop by during school hours for quality garden plans, bedding plants, and hanging baskets.

Stevens Summer Program
Stevens Institute of Technology offers residential summer programs for talented rising juniors and seniors who want to experience life on a college campus while gaining the advantages of an engaged academic experience. Programs in The Stevens Summer offer project-based learning, hands-on research, access to industry professionals through site visits to Fortune 00 companies, a true residential college experience, and an edge in the college admissions process--all in the beautiful campus in Hoboken, NJ. FSU Regional Math/Science Center
The regional Math and Science center is now accepting applications for admission for the 2012-2013 year. This is a program designed to prepare qualified high school students for successful admission into and completion of post-secondary degree programs in math and/or science. Funded by Upward Bound, it is completely free to all participants. The center runs a 6 week summer program with educational and recreational activities scheduled for students throughout the week and on weekends as well as provides assistance throughout the school year. Eligible students must be residents of Garrett county, currently be in 8th, 9th or 10th grade, and meet federal income guidelines or be a first generation college student. Peter Pan
Southern High School Theatre presents Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie on Thursday, May 10 - Saturday, May 12 at 8pm on the school stage. Admission is $5. Bring the children in your life to Neverland.
